FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • When we first chat with a potential new client, we ask about their product idea, brand style, and ideal customer. Then we send over an NDA/NC to discuss their idea in more detail and speak freely. We also love to get links to their favorite products and what they love about them. Then we can quote them for the formulation and prototypes to kick off their very own products.

  • After we’ve chatted with our new client, signed an NDA/NC, quoted and invoiced our client, we begin the formulation process.

    Step 1. Research & Compliance

We research client & competitor ingredients in peer-reviewed journals

We check FDA (and CA, EU, others) for ingredient compliance

    Step 2. Development & Formulation

We create R&D Matrix & make samples for 2-5 rounds of R&D

We incorporate client feedback into each R&D round until the final version

Step 3. is Packaging & Prototypes

We finalize label details and help choose packaging for prototypes

We produce 100+ prototypes of your final R&D version & ship it to you, our client

Step 4. is Quality Documents & Turnover

We complete final edits to your recipe, Batch Records, and Procedures for Manufacturing

We turn over your document package via email & refer manufacturers, suppliers, and others

  • Many people think that they have to have $20K to start their own brand, but that’s not true at ChemE Queen Bee. Our custom formulations are more expensive, but we also create unique formulations by using our private label products with small changes to get you started affordably. Most of our clients start with 1 or 2 products and 100-250 prototypes to test their market and recoup some of their expenses before heading off to large scale manufacturers. So don’t be shy. Schedule a call with us today and let us know your budget so we can get your brand started on your terms.

  • Absolutely not! We carefully select our suppliers and ingredients to avoid any human or animal conflict. The only guinea pigs we use for testing our formulations is our family and friends!

We would love to be Leaping Bunny certified, but only finished products can be certified, not R&D labs or manufacturers. However, as our client, we provide you with the information about your product(s) so you can complete the certification process for your brand. Not only do you get the seal for your labels and website, but you’ll be part of their cruelty-free shopping guide.

  • At ChemE Queen Bee, we believe nature is the best engineer. So we formulate with the cleanest essential oils, volatile oils that give plants their characteristic odors and are used especially in perfumes and flavorings, and for aromatherapy, and terpenes, are isolated chemical compounds from essential oils. These oils are extracted (either by cold pressing or steam distillation) from plants that contain hundreds of trace phytochemicals. For this reason, the chemical profile of, say, lavender, can vary from year to year and by soil chemistry on site.

We seek out the best essential oils, terpenes, nootropics, and fungi in the world, from experts who know where the best plants grow. This is one way we set our product formulations apart, since we use the cleanest beauty, nutrition, sports, and wellness ingredients on the planet.

  • The US FDA regulates cosmetics and drugs under the FD&C Act. The FDA doesn’t so much regulate cosmetics, as it prevents adultered and misbranded cosmetics from being sold. There is no recall on cosmetics like there is with drugs, but Good Practices (FDA cGMP) should be followed when manufacturing and packaging cosmetics to ensure safety and efficacy.

The biggest difference between a cosmetic and a drug is that a cosmetic intends to hydrate, make more beautiful, and it makes no medical claims. A cosmetic can also be a drug (and would be regulated under the more stringent drug part of the FD&C). If a medical claim is made, it is considered a drug. An example is sunscreen. Due to its intent to prevent skin cancer, lying about the SPF could have long-term consequences on users. Therefore, clinical tests must be performed to ensure the packaging claims are true.

At ChemE Queen Bee, we create cosmetics with natural blends that may have positive medical effects, but we ensure our clients stay in the cosmetic category so that they don’t have to register with the FDA.
